Procedure |
|
14. |
Via a transparent and balanced process, the selection committee establishes a ranking of the candidates. |
15. |
The selection committee selects the top three candidates. |
16. |
The selection committee can ask external experts to provide their evaluation of the work of the three top candidates; these external experts should be people who can be expected to be familiar with the work of young Dutch chemists. The experts provide their advice in written form, including documentation, for instance publications. |
17. |
The selection committee decides by a majority vote which candidate to recommend for the prize and provides its advice in written form to the board of the KNCV, on behalf of the board of the section Soft Matter. This advice should be accompanied by the materials upon which the advice is based. A short evaluation is given of each candidate, and arguments are given explaining why the recommended winner is preferred over the other candidates, on the basis of the earlier formulated criteria. If the board of the section Soft Matter does not recommend a winner, the prize is not awarded for the period of two years under consideration. |
18. |
The board of the KNCV follows the advice of the committee, except if there are substantial reasons not to do so. In that case, the board of the KNCV will clarify why they will not follow the advice. If the board of the section Soft Matter objects, the prize will not be awarded. |
19. |
Announcement of the winner, notification of the people who nominated candidates, award ceremony, publication of an explanatory statement and other actions will occur according to the action plan “draaiboek KNCV Van Arkelprijs” |
20. |
The chairperson of the selection committee writes an explanatory statement for the selection of the winner, and the board of the KNCV must authorize this statement at least one month before the award ceremony. |
21. |
The award ceremony occurs at a meeting of the section Soft Matter. |
22. |
In all cases not foreseen by these regulations, the board of the KNCV decides. |
